The first Beta of Fedora 9 has been released for download, via P2P, and direct download. New features include an updated Gnome package, use of KDE 4 (Kubuntu 8.04 has 2 versions, one with KDE4 and one with 3.5), use of Firefox 3 beta 5, and the ext 4 file system.

Is this major news in the Linux landscape?
Since there are so many distributions, I wonder how significant this is. Does it improve the overall attractiveness of Linux? They're using FF beta 5? I guess anyone can download the source and compile it into the binaries.
